OOTD: Black Satchel

In our final OOTD featuring our satchel that we are currently giving away, we have dressed the satchel in black in an all black outfit.

Wool Biker Jacket- Pop
Sequin Snood- Regular Choice

The satchel in this colour would go with any of the other four outfits we have posted in the last week, but here at Godiva we thought it would be fun to do something a little different. An all black outfit may not appeal to everyone, but the variation in this outfit comes from the variety of textures and materials used. The black leather skater skirt, biker boots and satchel give the outfit a tougher edge, but paired with the woollen biker jacket so the outfit doesn’t over-dose on black leather. It also makes the outfit a bit different in that a classic biker jacket is made of leather and a skater skirt is usually jersey/woollen, so it makes for an interesting twist. The pièce de résistance has to be the black sequin snood though, which is not only practical in protecting hair-dos from Edinburgh winds but adds a huge dollop of glamour to the outfit; catching the light even in Winter and so stopping the outfit from looking too plain.

Pleather Skater Skirt- Appletree
Black Boots- Stylist's own

Whilst it is a given that black goes with everything, not only could this satchel work with all the other outfits that have been posted over the last week, but all the other coloured satchels could work with this outfit. In fact, having an all black outfit with just one pop of colour would make the satchel an amazing statement piece, and in particular I think the green satchel would be great for this.

OOTD: Green Satchel

Today's outfit has a very classic vibe and is the most dressed up of our outfits this week. We have paired this gorgeous Forrest green satchel with a knee-length cocktail dress, black boots, and  a fur Cossack
hat . The  neutral toned palette of this outfit allows the eye to be drawn to the gorgeous Forrest green colour of the bag.

Black Fur-Lined Boots- Vintage
Black Bodycon Cocktail Dress- Appletree

Unlike the other satchels featured in our outfits this week, in this OOTD we have actually accessorized the satchel itself by simply tying a vintage scarf to the strap. This just goes to show how versatile a piece a satchel is; in being so simplistic and classic in its design, with an addition such as this scarf it won't look "too much". There are lots of other affordable and easy ways to accessorize a satchel such as this one, for example, adding Navajo style stitching to the strap or adding retro applique badges and/or studs to the body of the bag. However, clip-on badges and scarves may be more appealing to some as they can be added and removed when you like.

See a great DIY bag studding tutorial here: http://shewasvain.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/diy-stud-bag.html.

Fur Cossack Hat- Vintage
Headscarf (tied on satchel)- Vintage

The addition of the vintage scarf to the satchel, in combination with the fur-lined hat and boots and  the simple gold necklace gives the outfit a glamorous edge without going overboard. This outfit is more about lots of subtle pieces coming together rather than one or two bold statement pieces making the outfit, as in yesterday's outfit post.

OOTD: Yellow Satchel.

Today’s OOTD features our satchel that we are currently giving away in yellow, a flamboyant alternative to the more classic colours we have to offer. The pale blue of the denim shirt and shorts with the yellow satchel together work great together giving the outfit a very fresh, clean vibe, perfect for spring/summer.

Just like a satchel, a denim shirt is a great staple to have in any wardrobe as it is such a versatile piece. Also like the satchel featured in this OOTD, this Kissing In Traffic denim shirt in particular is a great twist on a classic, with each shirt being individually reworked using vintage material; meaning that no two shirts are the same. The detailing also adds dimension to the shirt, as often a problem with wearing over-sized shirts is that they can look a little bit shapeless.

Whilst double denim may not be for everyone, in this OOTD it is very subtle due to the shirt being large anyway and covering up most of the shorts. Nowadays however, if worn well double denim is much more of an edgy look rather than a gimmicky one. OOTD: Red Satchel.

Here is second of our outfits styled with the satchel as featured in our giveaway. The beautiful dark red colour of this one is a great take on the classic satchel, but without being too “out there”. We’ve gone for a festival-chic look for this outfit pairing it with a vintage camouflage jacket and ripped denim shorts; giving it a very laid-back, bohemian vibe.

This outfit is a lot more casual than yesterday’s outfit, and definitely has a ‘i-just-threw-this-on-but-still-look-effortlessly-cool’ feel to it. The jacket, jumper, boots and shorts are all vintage, and this outfit in particular of all the outfits we will be releasing this week has the most emphasis on vintage fashion, making it a sustainable choice and also friendly on your pocket.

The outfit also features a beautiful Johari handmade necklace, which is both a statement piece whilst also being very wearable in its simple yet unique design. Johari is a great brand in that 100% of the profit it makes helps to fund the Johari Foundation Miale programme, which supports young adults in Kenya make a better future for themselves.

This particular OOTD, regardless of whether you are a festival go-er or not, would be perfect for summer, worn without tights and different choice of footwear. OOTD: Tan Satchel.

As promised here is the first of our outfits using the satchel that was featured in yesterday's giveaway post. A tan satchel is a great staple piece to have in any wardrobe, as it is so wonderfully classic it can go with pretty much anything. To show just how much of a versatile piece it is, we have paired it with this beautiful Rowanjoy multi-coloured  midi and geometric print, over-sized knit.

Peplum Midi Skirt- Rowanjoy
Turquoise Geometric Jumper- Vintage

The fitted skirt really helps to balance the over-sized jumper on top, and in terms of colour with both top and bottom being ultra bright the black boots and beige satchel help to tone things down. However if you fancy being a little more "out there", this outfit would also work great with a pair of bright heels and one of the other brightly coloured satchels (yellow would probably work best). It is so bright already you may as well go all out!

Black Boots- Vintage
Cat Necklace- Red Brick

Paired with lots of jewellery and worn with heels it would make a great date/casual house party outfit, but dressed down with some retro high tops it would also work as a daytime outfit too. This outfit is a great example of the Godiva ethos; mixing both vintage wear with new pieces, and features the handiwork of Edinburgh based designer Rowanjoy.

Godiva Giveaway! Win vintage style Satchel of your Choice!

Godiva's First Giveaway: Gorgeous vintage inspired satchel.

Valentine's Day has left everyone at Godiva feeling very loved up, and in the spirit of things Godiva is going to be giving away one of these great vintage inspired satchels. The satchels come in five colours: black, red, beige, green and yellow. The variation in colours means there is something for everyone and these can be used for working an ultra classic look or adding a bright pop of colour to an outfit.

These satchels have a very classic, vintage inspired vibe, but are made of pleather so are still vegan-friendly. The simplicity of the bag means it is incredibly versatile, and can be dressed up or down. Versatile but also practical; this satchel is water-proof and has popper, so is much easier to open and close and saves you the hassle of a buckle when running errands around town.

From Monday to Friday this week each colour of satchel will be styled with a different outfit, so keep checking back and let us know what you think of them! All the looks are different so hopefully there will be at least one outfit to suit each of you. The outfits will also provide inspiration on how to style satchels in general and will no doubt help to sway your decision in deciding what colour to go for, so watch this space for those.

NB: The photos of the pictures have not been edited, so hopefully the colours should show fairly true to life.

The bags are also available online and in store for sale at the prices of £42!! So enter the giveaway to save some money!
