If you are planning on seeing the graduate show this year then look away now.......
Here are just a small selection to show to diversity of the show this year. Congratulations to all those who graduated this year and the ECA for putting on another great show.
This years show is held in the old college at Edinburgh University. It was strange not being in the sculpture court of the ECA like the previous years however the change of venue worked. It allowed for a much longer, slender catwalk which seems to work very well.
As for the graduate collection the array of different influences, shapes, colours and imaginations. For me it is about personal taste. There was no doubt that the first collection by Jacob Birge, 'Symmetric Strategy', based on the relationship of humans and computers took a great skill in construction and it worked really well. My favourite of the night was between Nicola Davidson's study of street style, and I loved the bold colourful cross stitching on the leather jackets and bodices, my other favourite was thre final collection show by Emma Hardstaff, 'False Impression', it really stood out from the crowd, it was 'an exploration of fabric manipulation' and for me displayed a lot of skill and attention to detail throughout the whole collection. I also loved the bold, Jack The Lad', Collection of Riona Horrox.
After for the second half, Performance Costume, it always steals the audiences affection with its energy and performances. It was really impressive and I especially loved the multicoloured parrot person, pictured, just because you really made me smile.
Well Done to everyone involved and all the best for your futures.
