Lalesso now in store at Godiva!

Here at Godiva we are proud to now be selling Lalesso. Lalesso is a brand based in Kenya which produces amazing statement pieces for summer, inspired by the unique beauty of the East African ‘lesso’ to create an ethical fashion label. If you love bold, graphic prints then Lalesso will definitely be for you! We have a range of their dresses in Godiva, but what the whole collection has in common is how comfortable and easy to throw on the pieces are, whilst still looking effortlessly chic. The collection includes a lot floaty cuts that would suit all body types and all pieces are beautifully printed and colourful, but still are easy to work with in an outfit and look great paired with simple accessories and plain/nude colours.

Besides Lalesso having such a vibrant and unique design aesthetic, they are also a brand which is in keeping with the Godiva ethos of sustainable fashion. In purchasing Lalesso your money won’t just be buying an original and amazing piece of clothing, but will also go towards helping others.

Firstly, Lalesso is one of the first fashion brands in the world which is totally carbon zero. Lalesso is able to practice carbon offsetting though working with the company CO2 Balance that not only takes measures to protect the environment but also makes efforts to a have a positive social impact on East African communities. If that wasn’t enough of a reason to buy from Lalesso, then you should be convinced by the way in which Lalesso make such a huge effort to invest back into Kenya, a country which has so much to offer in terms of design. Lalesso is a brand that helps to create employment with fair wages helping to bring their staff out of poverty and improve their quality of life.

Olivia Kennaway and Alice Heusser, founders of Lalesso, also started up SOKO, a charity based ethical clothing production unit that employs local talent to create eco-friendly fashion. In harnessing the raw talent of the local Kenyans, Lalesso is able to provide unique aspects to their clothing which other brands simply couldn’t, such as hand carved coconut beading, brass work and masai beading, all adding to the individuality of the brand whilst supporting a great cause.

A Lalesso dress would make the perfect summer evening outfit; eye-catching yet comfortable. Whilst Lalesso is an incredibly original brand, which is fairly consistent in the style of clothing it produces, the kind of pieces that would be on sale at Godiva would also be very trendy with graphic prints featuring heavily on the Spring/Summer 2013 catwalks, such as this vibrant Mary Katrantzou dress:

Godiva is the only place that will be selling Lalesso in Scotland, once again proving it is the one-stop shop for exclusive buys which you won’t be able to come by anywhere else.
Lalesso is available on the online store, or feel free to pop in store this Thursday evening (7th of March) to get a first-hand look at this label where it will be featuring for the first time in the Godiva store.

OOTD: Black Satchel

In our final OOTD featuring our satchel that we are currently giving away, we have dressed the satchel in black in an all black outfit.

Wool Biker Jacket- Pop
Sequin Snood- Regular Choice

The satchel in this colour would go with any of the other four outfits we have posted in the last week, but here at Godiva we thought it would be fun to do something a little different. An all black outfit may not appeal to everyone, but the variation in this outfit comes from the variety of textures and materials used. The black leather skater skirt, biker boots and satchel give the outfit a tougher edge, but paired with the woollen biker jacket so the outfit doesn’t over-dose on black leather. It also makes the outfit a bit different in that a classic biker jacket is made of leather and a skater skirt is usually jersey/woollen, so it makes for an interesting twist. The pièce de résistance has to be the black sequin snood though, which is not only practical in protecting hair-dos from Edinburgh winds but adds a huge dollop of glamour to the outfit; catching the light even in Winter and so stopping the outfit from looking too plain.

Pleather Skater Skirt- Appletree
Black Boots- Stylist's own

Whilst it is a given that black goes with everything, not only could this satchel work with all the other outfits that have been posted over the last week, but all the other coloured satchels could work with this outfit. In fact, having an all black outfit with just one pop of colour would make the satchel an amazing statement piece, and in particular I think the green satchel would be great for this.

For more details on pricing check out our online store (www.godivaboutique.co.uk), but remember not everything in store is featured online so pop in store to see everything we have! Be sure to enter our giveaway to be in with a chance of winning one of our satchels: Enter Giveaway Here! Leave us a comment to tell us which of the satchels is your favourite colour so we know what colour to send you if you win - Good luck!

OOTD: Tan Satchel.

As promised here is the first of our outfits using the satchel that was featured in yesterday's giveaway post. A tan satchel is a great staple piece to have in any wardrobe, as it is so wonderfully classic it can go with pretty much anything. To show just how much of a versatile piece it is, we have paired it with this beautiful Rowanjoy multi-coloured  midi and geometric print, over-sized knit.

Peplum Midi Skirt- Rowanjoy
Turquoise Geometric Jumper- Vintage

The fitted skirt really helps to balance the over-sized jumper on top, and in terms of colour with both top and bottom being ultra bright the black boots and beige satchel help to tone things down. However if you fancy being a little more "out there", this outfit would also work great with a pair of bright heels and one of the other brightly coloured satchels (yellow would probably work best). It is so bright already you may as well go all out!

Black Boots- Vintage
Cat Necklace- Red Brick

Paired with lots of jewellery and worn with heels it would make a great date/casual house party outfit, but dressed down with some retro high tops it would also work as a daytime outfit too. This outfit is a great example of the Godiva ethos; mixing both vintage wear with new pieces, and features the handiwork of Edinburgh based designer Rowanjoy.

For more details on pricing check out our online store (www.godivaboutique.co.uk), but remember not everything in store is featured online so pop in store to see everything we have! And to give you even more of an incentive to come in we are also doing an amazing sale on some of our vintage jumpers (including the jumper featured in this post).
