As we are now firmly into the New Year, have recovered from festive celebrations I am now finally making some resolutions and reflecting back in the best of 2011. We have a great year in Godiva and thank you to all our lovely customers old and new for supporting us throughout the year and making it one of our best years yet, I stand at the beginning of 2012 very positive on the prospects of the year ahead. These photos are just a small selection of the 2011 days in Godiva.
We started the year clearing out and giving the shop its first repaint since we moved into the shop 5 years ago! We must throw a Birthday party this year. We have done some great markets, we hope to be doing again this year, the Grassmarket one of the sunniest day of the year, where designer Rowanjoy and I enjoy some wine spritzers while getting pink in the sun and making some money with our wares at the same time.

Through the year we welcomed Krystle to the team, had some floods, watched close friend babies grow to fashion conscious little people, found some excellent new designers, one exceptional best seller, Appletree, that have produced the best selling swallow scarf. Expect much more from them in the year ahead.

Fi launched her own label Eleanor's Riot, that sold out within a month in the store!

We have so many great ideas this year and don't forget about our Made to Measure service, which is still very unique to the city! and give you the chance to create your own dress and is then created by designer Rowanjoy.
Rowanjoy has also started a beautiful bridal range in 2011 so brides to be, pop in and check out her latest collection or have the dress your dreams created.

NOIR at Summerhall this Saturday!

This Saturday is an event I have been looking forward to for months, it promises to be one of the biggest and in my opinion by far the best Christmas market event this season. I will be in the main hall with designers Rowanjoy and Lost Forward.

Join Noir! for an all day fashion, food and arts market; a distinctly seasonal affair celebrating Scotlandʼs creative talent through bespoke stalls, pop-up exhibits, live performance, activities for kids and a grand fashion show plus plenty of refreshments throughout the day.

Set in Summerhall - previously Edinburgh University’s Dick Veterinary School and boasting some of the capital’s finest architectural features - this event allows you to explore and interact within an incredible location steeped in history.

There are five main areas to wander through and investigate, while the corridors themselves will be adorned with artworks and installations.

Peruse Noir!'s latest collaboration with The Edinburgh College of Art in the glass cabinets lining the Dissection Room. One display will be a selection of the finest Jewelry and fashion from this year's crop of young talent.

The finale on the day will be a fashion show in the Dissection Room. As with previous Noir! editions expect impressive styling, staging and cutting edge industry associations as well as the cream of Scotlandʼs modeling talent being put through their paces.

Fairtrade Gifts for the home!

As we are in the month of gift giving, here at Godiva we decided to get some alternatives to clothing and accessories. We have gifts for the home! or home type activities. These really gorgeous Aprons and tables set are from our local and Kenyan fairtrade designer label Johari.
These items are all screen printed cotton with the print of the Acacia tree. Very pretty I think you will agree and as I get older I must admit the need for matching table sets and aprons is becoming stronger! I especially like the The Malkia (Queen) Apron for it's cute 50's domestic goddess shape, The Jamala (courtesy) Apron is bibbed and suitable for both men and women chefs! Of these are more than just an Aprons, as Johari products are more than fairtrade as all the profit for Johari sales go back to support the local Kenyan community these products are produced in and help pay for education and important community projects there.
The Kilele ('At The Top') Table Set consists of a 210cmx40cm cotton table runner and four polyester napkins all with print of the Acacia tree. Easily washable and looks great for any dinner party. As each Johari garment is unique and individually handmade we only have a limited amount in stock, all now available in store.
The Aprons are £25-£28 and the table set £33.

The night as you can see from the flyer will be more of a ladies night though all welcome! ECA graduate David Vallance

Over the years Godiva has been showcasing final year collections from many great talented ECA graduates and this collection from David Vallance is something a little different this year, from the usual colour and pattern explosions that normally hang from the rails in the showroom. It is a sleek and tailored contrast in Godiva and we are proud to have this fantastic work in store.

In his own words, "This collection is inspired by a recent trip to La Dune du Pilat in France, a place of contrasting environments. Through the use of contrasting fabrics, such as Satin Organza and Doe-Skin Wool, and combining new methods of pattern-cutting with classic tailoring - the collection manages to be structural yet wearable, soft yet hard creating the perfect sense of contrast."

You may not be able to tell by the black and grey photos, but the collection consists of very muted tones of fawn, brown, cream and of course black. The collection is made up of tailored fitted cotton and organza shirt dresses, an organza dress, leather shorts, suede culottes and a Doe Skin structured coat, which is a great piece. I especially love the suede culottes and the Rope belts are a wardrobe must.

David's collection will be on sale until the end of the year so please do pop in and check it out.

Zebra & Swallow print scarves! LOVE

There have been many great things being added to the Godiva showroom of late and one of our best sellers are the animal print scarves. In fact they have been selling so well this is the first batch I have had time to take pictures of them before they fly out the door! 2m length by 1m wide these scarves are the perfect Autumn accessory. We currently have the Zebra and Swallow print in all the great colours shown. Pop in store or call the shop if you wish to buy one of these limited stock scarves.
Thanks to Krystle, our newest addition to the Godiva team, for modeling the latest batch for me before I had to run out for my awful dentist nightmare appointment yesterday, after my 4 injections and gum sorting I cheered myself up by treating myself to the grey Swallow one, love it and cosy it is too. I trust everyone is out enjoying the freak late September sun this week, I can't quite believe I am in my shorts at work! Sadly I won't be able to enjoy a bbq weekend as the rain is coming to spoil Saturday :( however all is not lost as what better to do on a rainy day than perusing round Britain's largest and best vintage fair!! Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair is being held at the Drill Hall, Dalmeny street this Saturday!
This truly is the best fair I have been a part of and is well worth a visit. Rowanjoy and Godiva will be in the main hall from 11am-4pm, selling our best hand picked Autumn/Winter wears, so come down say hi and grab yourself a vintage treasure and get your A/W wardobe started. I have some seriously 80's chunky cardi & knits, a quality range of 70's 80's boot and coats that are not even in the shop yet.

An Autumn with Eleanor's Riot

Autumn is upon us, though I am pleased to see that this week looks like it is set to be a sunny one, it won't be long until we are setting our Autumn/Winter wardrobes and what better place to start than with vintage inspired label Eleanor's Riot.
Eleanor's Riot is a newcomer to Godiva, but talented designer Fi Mackay behind the label is not. You will usually see her pretty face on the shop floor style advising, assisting and generally being a great asset to the shop.
Eleanor's Riot interpretation of this seasons once again 'must have' The Cape is a extremely feminine version and very pretty. Made from quality tweed and a lush deep aubergine lining this cape hits all the trend top marks, and oozes Autumn. What makes it is the amount of fabric used, giving it an excellent drape and super swing. I am predicting this piece won't be in the shop window for long, there will be a few more in the production line though stock will be limited, like everything in Godiva.

Underneath the cape is another creation from Eleanor's Riot, the Shift Dress. This Shift designs is the signature piece that propelled designer Fi Mackay into action to launch her new label. Her line of shift last year wear an instant sell out, due to their easy to wear and great fabric combination. This shift, also in store, is made from a super soft suedette. Feel gorgeous and looks great.
The Autumnal outfit has been finished off with a brown felt vintage hat, all styled together by Denise Hawkes and photography by David Anderson.
We are very much looking forward to this season of Eleanor's Riot and more seasons to come!

60's psychedelia kaleidoscopic print, JOI umbrellas now in store

Here at Godiva we think everyone should look good in the rain, and we definitely have enough chances all of Britains four seasons, or what the designers behind these JOI umbrellas state that rain is a pretty integral part of British life, therefore the umbrella is a symbol of Britain.
For the first time ever we now stock umbrellas and not just any old £1.99 throw away but stylish slender ones. There is great attention to detail and style with these named, 'Lundy' umbrellas and these British designers really have added some class to the mundane black brolly which just fuels the depression the constant rain can bring.
The umbrellas come in raspberry & chocolate colours as seen. They features exclusive artwork from Jethro Haynes. Originally from the West Country, Jethro relocated to London where he lives today, his work has been seen across many different mediums including Dazed & Confused and Illustrated Ape. Jethro combines 60’s psychedelia with his underwater abyss to present this kaleidoscopic print. The print in on the inside and is not visible from the outside. A feature that definitely makes it stand out from the competition.
We love them and are doing our rain dance daily!!
Each umbrella come with a lovely gift tag and box you can bring some JOI into someone else life as well as your own.

Bold arrival of Sarah Ho

ECA fashion graduate Sarah Ho collection has arrived in the shop this week to inject some serious colour and bold shapes into the store this month. Graduating this year from the Edinburgh College of Art, new designer Sarah Ho is extremely determined and is focused on one day having her own boutique with her name above the door.
Sarah is a fun and energetic designer and I think this reflects in this collection. The collection in her own words is about, "simple cuttings and cut-outs. I was influenced by architectural minimalism the idea of structural, angular formation. My concept is exploring the issues of intersecting shapes".
She explains her theories based on the the nostalgia of the computer games Tetris, this giving her inspiration of interconnecting shapes of bright and bold colours.

We are really please to have Sarah Ho in the showroom not only for her block colour injection bringing smiles to faces but the fact that there is definitely a great future for this very determined designer, she is one to watch.

First came to online shop of accessories and now finally I am pleased to say I have made a start on posting up some hand picked vintage treats on the store for you, spurred on by the success of selling on ASOS marketplace!
Here is the first installments on the store and I promise to keep posting some of the best that comes our way.

Glasgow based designer Baba Ganoush never fails to impress us with her skill and imagination. I have never seem anything like her work. The shoulder pieces and collars are so unique and beautiful. They can be worn with the plainest top and jeans or to accessories that wedding outfit. The pieces have just arrived and never stay in the shop longer than a few weeks! so pop in when you can to see these pieces or art decorating the shop floor.

Its that time of year again where I spend most of my day redirecting plastic poncho wearing people around the city and say no to performance flyers, yes its the festival! well it's just round the corner and we are busy at Godiva restocking for all the lovely tourists coming to town. This year we have some really pretty things in to catch their castle spotting eyes.
It's been a great year so far for Jewellery and here is the latest addition to the cabinet! am sure these silver silhouette animals will please more than a few magpies. My personal favourite the Highland Cow come as a necklace or a brooch. All pieces are hand-made from quality hallmarked sterling silver here in Scotland.
Designed and created by Willa vin Klitzing for her label Jewellery Bird. Its a label inspired by nature. This collection is limited edition and so very reasonably priced at £60-65!

Appletree Boutique comes to Godiva

This week we have been excited to receive our first delivery from Appletree Boutique. This cute London label, began as a market stall in Portobello and has now grown into 3 well situated, central stylish boutiques in London. I came across Appletree on my last visit to London and excited that Godiva now stocks this everyday, easy to wear, pretty label.
Here are a few pics of what has arrived in store. The beautiful bird print comes in red, navy & black vest top style and dress, the cotton 'hello sailor' top looks great teamed with our Stolen Thunder anchor brooch and there is also a range of everyone's favourite polkadot and stripe prints.

A must see in Lisbon!

This is not a museum it' s a bar!
I have neglected my blog due to having a short break to see an old school friend called Karen who currently lives in Portugal. It was lovely, sunny and just the break I needed. Karen lives just outside Lisbon so on the last night we ventured into Lisbon for some dinner and more than a few drinks. After dinner she took me to a bar that she knew I was instantly fall in love with, and she was not wrong!
We walked down a quite street to find ourselves outside a closed and curtained establishment. Karen rang the door bell and a doorman dress in a red waistcoat and bow tied greeted us with a polite smile and let us in to what I can only describe as nicnaks collectors heaven, it's not just a bar it's a museum of the car boot kind.

Pavilhao Chines is a work of art and an experience like no other, it was a great end to my break away. This special place oozes style, unique class, history and someone's personal love and life long dedication in collecting beautiful and bizarre fragments of the past. This place is a must see for anyone visiting Lisbon!

I took some photos but these are only a few of the things that were on show, pugs in African skirts, victorian dolls, model cars, action figures to name but a few quirky ranges, it could take at least a few beers time to get a look in every glass cased cabinet of perfectly poised artifacts. The bar consists of 4 rooms of different themes from war to religion.

Stylin' Sisters of Royalty! Pippa Middleton in Rowanjoy & Godiva

There was much excitement this weekend just past when designer Rowanjoy opened up the Saturday Scotsman newspaper to see an article on Pippa Middleton in a Rowanjoy dress, (pictured), while she modeled for a Edinburgh University Charity Fashion Show. Not only are Rowanjoy's creations featured but other Godiva Boutique designers, (pictured), so it was quite an exciting fame day for all.
What was even more exciting is that the pictures just did not stop at the Scotsman!! Pippa Middleton in the blue dress by Rowanjoy was featured in every local and national Saturday paper!! and then consequently fashion bloggers and online gossip pages! it's was amazing to see it spread like wildfire. We are really proud not only of Rowan but of Godiva and the designer we support in the showroom. This fashion show was back in 2004 and was out first ever show. I remember it very well and Pippa. She was very lovely and John Snow was presenting, which for me was exciting. Of course we did not know who Pippa was then and we hope she will now order some more dresses from us soon!

One of the best things about running Godiva sometimes is opening deliveries to discover wonderful workmanship and imagination that brings a smile!
British label Stolen Thunder have once again excelled themselves with their latest collection. There is definitely something for eveyone! Fans of Owls will not be let down by this adorable large pendant. Seafarers should not be at sea without one of these anchor brooches! also very this season with this year 'nautical' trend. The vintage inspired engraved roses are just delightful and full of Old English Rose glamour. And finally the tiny birdcage is a different cute version of the large Bridcage laret of last year 's collection.
I love Stolen Thunder and I know you will too and what is even better is thatnow all their wooden products are handemade from Bamboo, which makes them super eco-friendly! what more could you ask for.

Charity Fashion show for The Sick Kids Foundation

This Thursday 26th May at The Green Room Hawke & Hunter, Godiva alongside some of the best independent shops in town will be showcasing latest collections at a Charity Fashion Show organised by Brightside Models . It's all in aid to raise money for a very good cause, The Sick Kids Friends Foundation. So get you tickets here or call the number on the flyer above and come down to for some fashion fun and support the sick kids foundations that help over 10,000 kids a year.

As you know Godiva prides itself on being an eclectic mix of independent designer talent. The showroom is currently experiencing a high turnover of different stock both vintage & designer, keeping the shop the freshest fashion spot in town. I decided to take some pics of some of my favourite things in store right now and to show the variety of pieces we have on offer.

Pic one: Rowanjoy's 'Tennis' Dress. This dress is part of her latest summer collection. A masterpiece and ever so pretty.
Pic two: Johari Mani Necklace. This necklace made from polished brass, is actually designed & created by the Kenyan women and community that the Johari foundation support. I love it, I love what Johari stand for and thi has been a top seller. You currently can not buy the necklace anywhere else.
Pic three: Rework'd Workshop Charm necklace. After the success of last year & Christmas this label took a wee break and is now back in action and creating not only necklaces, bracelets, cufflinks & earrings but a new ring design too.
Pic four: Vintage 'Faux' Croc bag. We have had a great selection of these faux animal bags and some real ones too. This is especially great not only because of its good condition but the strap is adjustable.
Pic five: Panther Brooch. Again we have had some really great vintage jewellery finds lately. It's really satisfying having a good source nowadays. We have a big eccentric range in store from animals, fruits, cameos, pearls to name but a few.

Fashion Fundraiser! 25th May

It's been a while since I blogged! I have been very busy renovating a flat across the road from Godiva which I hope to be renting out to tourist who want some stylish city centre accomodation with castle views. Watch this space for some more news on that. So with this I have neglected my blog but have been meaning to give you the heads up on an event happening next Friday 25th May.
It's a fashion fundraiser involving pop up shops of independent boutique, high street shops, food, drink and a fashion show finale. This promises to be a fantastic fashion experience all in aid of raising money for St Mary's Primary & Nursery School.
This event has been created under the Art direction and production of the talented Model, Producer, creative Director and Mother Anna Freemantle. Godiva will be there hosting a boutique stalls. So do pop down for a different kind of Friday of Fashion fun.

Sunny & good times at the Grassmarket Festival

This bank holiday just past designer Rowanjoy and I decided to share a stall at the first ever Grassmarket festival. The day turned out to be really great and those who missed out on the 3 day event really did miss a lovely wee local treat. There was a small selection of stall though i think next year after the success this year there will be more.
We only did the Saturday and the sun shone all day making it very pleasant as we sipped our white wine spritzers and people watched. The Grassmarket was bustling with all sorts of folk it made for some excellent people watching! Reworkd Workshop and Little Sister Lucy, (pictured), two of the designers in the Godiva showroom also had their own stalls too.
The day was also made easy not only from the cheeky wines, some great customers and being in close proximity to Godiva, but also the stage in the middle of the all the stalls hosted a variety of performances. The Dancebase started things off by some ballroom dancing, the Tango in particular was really great. Then Avalanche Records store, a newcomer business to the Grassmarket traders has organised some local new and established Scottish bands to entertain the crowds for the rest of the day. Some of the younger bands I wasn't that into as they enthusiastically screamed into the microphone, sorry guys but am sure somebody appreciated it. However the day ended with a brilliant performance for a band I had heard of, but never actually listened to, called Burnt Island, (featured in last photo). Highly recommend giving these guys a listen.
I could not resist purchasing a wonderful polkadot shower cap from one of the stall, The Night Owl. I was absolutely delighted with it! I have in fact been on a long hunt for such a showercap for quite some time!
After the success of Saturday I wished I has signed up for Sunday. Well done to the organisers and I hope it becomes and permanent feature in the annual calender and more such like festivals are being planned in The Grassmarket....

Sunny Shopping down London Town

I have just come back from short jaunt down in London. The sun had its biggest hat on while I tripped around all the usual shopping haunts, I do find it hard and exhausting trying to fit everything in! There is always so much to check out and I over used my Oyster card jumping on and off tubes. I only took a few photos throughout my travels but here is a little selection.

I had a great time as always. I love checking out what everyone else is up to, what kind of vintage they have and what the new & independent designers are creating. It is definitely the bonus side of my job!
I did my usual tours, such as Brick Lane vintage stores which seemed to have multiplied since I last visited, especially along to road towards Beyond Retro, this being one of the most famous and biggest. If you are prepared to rummage the endless packed rails you will always find something at an affordable price. I picked up a great floral & pokadot print jumpsuit for £20.
Of course while around Brick Lane do check out The Laden Showroom for all the latest independent designers there. I picked up some great summer pieces by Emily & Fin.

My lovely London thift informant Leona from Thriftola told me about an antique flea market that she was going on at the Camden Passage on Wednesday. So I went along to meet her. I think this runs every Wednesday. If you get off the Islington Angel tube station its a 2 minute walk to a fantastic array of antiques, crockery, furniture, nic naks, from postcards to strange ornamental collectors pieces. You name it one of these sellers will have it. It was a great place to have a good look around.
I especially feel in love with this strip light letters invention, (pictured). These were in the window of a highly recommended shop called Odyssey, 11 Pierrepont Arcade. This shop, like the 20 other units are more permanent than the Wednesday market folks. The owner informed us that the letters are in fact 1920's design. I was indeed jealous and still dreaming of owning these letter lights. I still can't believe its 1920's.
If you make your way through this little street of what is called the Pierrepont Arcade you find yourself entering more little street adorn with some really great thrift sellers. This trip is definitely worth it. For those in search of proper vintage yet worth it look no further than Cloud Cuckoo Land and Annie's. These shop do come with a price tags but Cloud Cuckoo LAnd for me was simple beautiful and worth every penny. Gorgeous original and perfect condition 1920's and 1950' dresses in particular, also a range of vintage wedding dresses. If you really want to see what real vintage is like take a trip to these stores.
If you have the energy then go to the Old Spitalfields vintage Market! I think it runs every Thursday. I turned up on a hot sunny day and only got round a quarter of what was on offer! These stall offer proper market prices and bartering. Of course when visiting Spitalfields you always have to check out the New and Independent designers there. I met designer Chung Rowe, (pictured), selling her hand made beautiful jewellery and clothing and hope to have her collection on Godiva soon!!
A shopping trip to London is always worth it but do plan ahead and there really is too much to check out and see.

Grassmarket Festival this weekend!

We have been so lucky with the weather of late, really lucky for those of you that have been able to take advantage of the long Easter and the bank holiday weekend coming up I hope the sun keeps it's hat on for you all, and for the Grassmarket Festival this weekend!
This newly introduced festival is running over 3 days, Friday until Sunday, 12noon until 8pm. It boasts lots of independent arts market stalls and live music by some of Scotland's newest talented bands.
With some dancing organised by the Dancebase this promises to be a very local and vibrant few days.
Rowanjoy & Godiva will be hosting a stall on the Saturday market so we hope to see you there and of course the shop will be open all these days!

Only The Gallus

According to Wikipedia, the word Gallus is, "a british dialect word, cheifly Scottish, derogatory in origin and meaning, wild, a rascal; deserving to be hanged (from the Gallows)'; later meaning
1. Self confident, daring, cheeky;
2. Stylish, impressive. "
Jewellery Designer Caroline Cloughley behind this intriguing, slightly macbre but balanced with beauty is really doing something different and I like it.
It is not that she dislikes Butterflies and Moths but in fact is slightly scared of them. Again she doesn't actively go out with a net and catch them, they are kindly donated by the Edinburgh Butterfly farm once they pass away from natural causes.
I love the concept and definitely have not seen such an imagination before. Caroline is celebrating the beauty of the butterfly, the colours and individual patterns of their wings.
Her work is hand-crafted well with Sterling silver casing and fastenings.
These fasinating pieces are not for everyone but like wikipedia defines, I do think you need a certain amount of daring to wear these hand crafted pieces of art but when you do, you do with great style.

The Paper Dress for Fashioning an Ethical Industry

Here at Godiva we have always supported the work of Labour being the label. We have always has a conscience and support ethically produced fashion. This is why our showroom is full of local designers work hand-making their own garments. We are very proud to have this wonderful

one off Paper Dress which has been created by sisters Kate and Fi MacKay, and decorated by local fashion students for a project created by the organisation Fashioning an Ethical Industry.

The project is in support of the of Labour Behind the Label, an organization that promotes awareness and push for change in the working conditions behind many of our high street stores, but most importantly to change people’s perceptions of fashion and encouraging international solidarity between workers and consumers.

Fashioning an Ethical Industry work with fashion based students and tutors to educate and inform the future generation of industry workers, so that they will in turn go on to push for higher standards in their workplace.

The Paper Dress was created at an awareness event that was held in Edinburgh's Drill Hall space, the day revolved around a series of talks, discussions and workshops. We have put this wonderful paper dress in the window of Godiva to help raise awareness of these fantastic campaigners. Please visit their website today and support their work in anyways you can. 'Stay at home Sunday Girl" S/S collection by Rowanjoy

Since the snow started to melt I have been witness to Rowanjoy's hard work in the studio creating this stunning new Spring/Summer collection. Inspired by floral, stripe, denim, silks, and lace this feminine collection is very atypical of Rowanjoy style and really on trend with her super cute playsuits with scalloped detailed pockets. Again flared shorts with scalloped pockets, so easy to wear I have already invested in these! As for those who have a summer wedding this year and still have nothing to wear....look no further that her new dress range.
Rowanjoy has been filling the showroom of Godiva for years with her fun, playful and skillfully created collections, I don't think th shop floor would ever look right without some of her fashion magic. Oh and this photoshoot she recently did with her long term friend/great photographer Paul Marz once again is another beautiful collection of work. Rowanjoy is indeed in a class of her own and everyone should own a piece from her.

I personally have been so happy this week to start packing up my winter wardrobe of black cardi's and thick socks to make way to salute the Spring sun with some colour and this season big trend again, floral! Yesterday was not only my birthday but the Equinox of Spring. The days are not longer and longer and the sun is finally gracing us with its presence just in time for these super cute bright floral dress range from designer Virginia Morley.
Virgina is one of the old skool designers for Godiva and a good friend. Now living back in her hometown of Australia she still manages to supply us with her skilled and very pretty work from across the globe!
All Virginia's fabrics have been hunted down and handed down from bygone years giving them a really sense of quality, memories and individuality that you get from using vintage fabrics from bygone years. Each one hand crafted and one off you can't go wrong in investing on one of these newcomers to the showroom.

Nature inspired Sterling Silver by Alexis Southam

We have had such a great influx of new jewellery designers we have had to buy in an extra cabinet for the shop floor. Those of you attending tomorrows evening from 5-8pm will have first peak at the huge range in price and creativity in jewellery that we have on offer this Spring/Summer.
I have just updated the online store with this beautifully handcrafted work by Alexis Southam.

Alexis Southam is a Edinburgh based jewellery designer taking inspiration from natural landscapes, flora and fauna to design contemporary bespoke jewellery with strong but delicate motifs. This collection has been inspired by Rosemary leaves and the Scottish Stag.
During her degree in Jewellry Design at Middlesex University, Alexis learned traditional silversmithing techniques such as intricate hand piercing, which she translates into decorative, desirable pieces with an enduring quality.

Alexis Jewellery is made to the highest standard and all her sterling silver is hallmarked when over 7.78grams and if it does not need to be it is stamped with '925' (fineness symbol for sterling silver).

Alexis's silver work is produced with different finishes to create either a polished, matte and oxidised effect.

Godiva at Judy's Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair!!

My favourite vintage fair is coming to town tomorrow and I will be there with some fantastic Spring/Summer vintage! 80"s jumper lovers and in for a special treat as I have some of the best 80's jumper creations I have even seen!! Floral dresses, blouses, this season Maxi dress hunter won't be disappointed too. I have clutches a plenty and some great cameo necklaces! Too much and too excited I may not sleep.
So come find me tomorrow and check out this great fair, it really is not to be missed.

Recycle & 'Reworking' Vintage Project- First glances!

I had mentioned in past blogs about when Godiva first started I began, what I named, the ‘Reworked’ rail. This rail represented the creative imaginations of some ECA students at the time. This project I started due the excess unsold vintage I had and wanted to do something with the clothing, as the fabric, prints, colours etc were too good just to throw away. So why not just trim, tuck, pin, cut and create new garments or simple make a vintage garment more wearable.

This is the theory behind the reworking project, breathing new life in to something forgotten.

To sell vintage is to recycle and breathe new life into it, but to customize and ‘rework’ it is to give a whole new look, celebrates its charm or uniqueness and display great skill and imagination for the sewer/designer.

I spent my life in charity shops as a child with my mother. She was great with a sewing machine and was always customising garments. I have fond memories of my 10^th birthday fancy dress party. I for some reason unbeknown to me now wanted to go as Miss Piggy from the Muppets. My mother created a big white puffy ball dress out of white dress and white bin bags and with my Miss Piggy mask to finish the outfit I remember feeling so happy as my pig princess. I was so proud of her creation, I thought it genius, beautiful and couldn’t believe she has created it. When I look back I realise that there must be this connection with what I do now at Godiva. I really love and very impressed by peoples imagination and skill to create something great out nothing.

With all this childhood reflection I must get to the actual point. What I am talking about is the freedom of imagination and challenge in reworking, it should be fun and be impressive.

There has been an upsurge in reworking vintage, Urban Outfitters call it, ‘Urban Renewal”, Blue Rinse have their range called ‘Remade’. However, I recent trip to see these ranges in shops I found that the reworking they were doing was so simple. They were cute and sellable but for me lack imagination, ‘sort of seen it before’, turning vintage customising into something generic and resembling that of the high street.

At Godiva, as you know, this is a fashion crime! It takes the fun out of it, out of wearing it and being individual. It’s a great skill and challenge to recycle vintage and it should be something that makes you take a second look, be excited about what someone has created out of something that would maybe otherwise been thrown away.

With the imminent re-launch of our Reworked rail next Thursday 10^th at our customer evening you will find some excellent examples of individual talent, skill and imagination in reworking vintage. The student designers who have taken up the challenge set to them by Godiva and we are going to display and offer you the chance to buy these first installments to the rail!This is only just the beginning of what we what to be a great re-addition to the showroom and we could find our next designer star!

Lara once again has been a great help with the project so far and made some short video of Kirsten Orme and Aimi Mackay from Galasheills Textiles College talking us through some great ideas in their recycling minds.

This week at Godiva Boutique!

This week at Godiva Boutique has been a busy one! I feel bad to have neglected my weekly blogging, twitters and shop duties but here is some evidence of what I have been doing instead. It has been 5 years this month since I got the keys for 9 West Port to create the new shop, proud times however the shop has not been painted since! The walls were looking a little tired so I decided this was the week to close for a couple of days and give Godiva a facelift! It has been quite a week and absolutely exhausting! these walls are big! but its done and we are back in business with some lovely shiny and clean shop! Just in time for the month of March which is gonna be a great one!
Here are some quick dates for your diary so far..........

This weekend is the end of the vintage and designer sale!! so get down to the shop before 1st March to get some last minute bargains! We will then be restocking the entire vintage backroom with lots of lovely spring/summer vintage!

Saturday 5th March I will be at Judy’s Affordable Vintage fair at the Drill Hall

Lovers of vintage would be foolish to miss this!!! The best market I have been too and taken part in. We will have a stall and expect to find vintage seller for all over the country. Start 11am until 4pm.

Also don't miss our 1st customer evening on 2011!! Thursday 10th March at Godiva shop starting at the earlier time of 5pm until 8pm, new vintage, introducing new jewellery and independent designers and of course new collections for our favourites like Rowanjoy, Fifi and Lost Forward. We will also be relaunching the Reworked Rail!! This promises to be a great evening at Godiva for all you lovely regulars and followers of Godiva.

Baba Ganoush this Spring!

Katherine Robert-Wood designer behind the newcomer label Baba Ganoush had record breaking sales last Winter. Her beautifully craft and imaginative one-off shoulder pieces were hugely admired and nearly sold out in the month. Godiva had been waiting for someone like Baba Ganoush to come along to complete the showroom.
The showroom will be full of new S/S11 beginning of March and here is a sneak preview of the next installment from Baba Ganoush! We think these will accompany and finish off that wedding outfit this season or just add a bit of glamour to that jeans and t-shirt.

Berlin: Selection of Showrooms and Concept Stores

During Fashion Week, Berlin turned into the city of Concept Stores, Pop-up shops and Showrooms. At least a few have a long term base, but I would always keep an eye on upcoming ones. Torstrasse turned into a popular location for exploration and also the famous Oranienstrasse in Kreuzberg seems to be a target for new edgy stores.

Recommendable is the Edged Showroom | Pop-up Store which had its presence on Torstrasse. It seems to have closed there by now, but I have the feeling it could reopen there again. Check news and the designer portfolio of Edged here.

Also one of a kind was the Happy Shop on Torstrasse. This is a permanent shop with exciting new designers and a very colourful selection of clothes. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take pictures from the inside, because it looked like no other shop, I have ever seen. You can see some pictures on their homepage. I was told by the owner that an extension to the sides and the top is planned, so that the shop can be explored like a cube.

Nokia presented the Smartstyles Showroom which was created embedded in a competition for Young Designers from Germany. Parts of their collections appear in the new campaign of the C7 Nokia Smartphone. Read more here.

However, my favourite store was, the Voo Store in Kreuzberg. They have just opened and have an amazing interior with a lot of wood and an industrial feeling. They offer a range of scandinavian brands like Stine Goya, Henrik Vibskov and Cheap Monday, also some young designers and the most delicious aromatic candles I have ever smelled by Astier de Villatte. You can a good impression of the interior and an interview of the creative director Ingrid Junker here (sorry that it is only in German).

After exploring all the showrooms and stores, I went to a book launch of my favourite and also most successful German fashion blog Les Mads. It took place in the beautiful decorated department store Cabinet. Their selection of collections is really good, so whenever you are in Berlin, you should visit this store. I was more excited about the interview with the two girls of Les Mads, but luckily a friend of mine took some photos of the store.

Vintage treasures to make a quirky pirate weep

The science of 'Up To Much'

Up To Much describes itself as, "a very small Edinburgh company all about intriguing designer made in small volume using the democratising power of modern industrial magic". We are extremely excited and pleased to introduced this cleverly designed work into the showroom for this Spring/Summer.
There is a science to this work and here is it in the designers own words.........
"These 3D Plyoptic pendant & rings has been made using a cutting edge 3D printing process: It isn't cast, or constructed, it is laid down in the form of hundreds of layers of stainless steel powder bonded together, then finally infused with molten brass to make it solid and strong. The colour varies from a silver grey to a subtle champagne and is very attractive. The surface is not polished, but shows some of the layers of the process - it's quite wonderfully honest in that way."

We at Godiva are really impressed with this really different approach to accessory design and these pieces are unisex.
We are waiting for the brightly coloured Polyoptic Nylon pieces to arrive soon too so keep watching this space!

MBFW Berlin: Premium Exhibitions

Premium Exhibitions is the one of the trade fairs in Berlin, taking place during Fashion Week. In contrast to Bread and Butter, it is more focused on premium brands. I love the location which is an old post station. It has been lovely renovated, but still keeps the industrial character. I loved to see what will enter the shops in the next Autumn/Winter season and think I have spotted the trend of clogs shoes converted into winter boots, like those here. I also saw a lots of Scandinavian brands with their minimalistic style with a twist. Most impressive was the designer Burkhardt Möllmann, who converted the fabric of car seats into amazing and surprisingly wearable garments. Here a some impressions of the fair.

It's February, It's Valentines

So pleased that January is over! It is never a fun month for shops, what with tax returns and the slump after Christmas! It's has not all been bad, we have had some great stock the Sale and made a lot of folk happy. The designer and vintage sale runs for another week or so.
I was also really pleased and excited to have got such an amazing response from students and keen sewers for the reworking vintage project! The idea being that Godiva supplies sewers with unsold vintage clothing and then these skilled and creative people go away and either rework in subtle or ways of completely deconstruct and create a new piece to then bring back for the rail in the shop for selling! We love to recycle!
So now it is February we have been collecting new designers to launch into the showroom!! so things are getting exciting even braved to trip to Ikea on Saturday past to buy another cabinet for Jewellery! On the February vibe here are are few Valentine's inspired pieces for you. Sterling Silver pieces are from newcomer Lindsay MacDowall. So cute and very affordable! The Tiny Diamond is from one of our favourites from last year, Stolen Thunder.

MBFW: Friday- Swedish Fashion Goes Berlin

Although my body struggled to get up on Friday Morning, I somehow managed to attend a "Swedish Fashion Lecture" at the Nordic Embassies at the other end of Berlin. But how do you say, the early bird catches the worm? The old saw was right, it was interesting and I got a total new perspective on Swedish fashion. The Ph.D. student Ulrike Berglund took us on a historical time journey through Swedish Fashion development from 1930 to 1960. It never occured to me how much Swedish Fashion was influenced by the Parisian Haute Couture and more surprislingly is how much different Swedish Fashion with its minimalistic elements and the attention on edgy cuts and high quality now is from the Parisian style. For me even more interesting was after that the lecture about mythologies of Swedishness and how brands use those stories and prejudices to build up their partially fake Swedish identity held by Ph.D Jacob Östberg. Some of the brands are not even known in Sweden, e.g. the UK based retailer COS. They are operating in some parts of Europe now for about three years, but never had a shop in Sweden, although every part of the stores screams for Scandinavian style.

After the lectures, we got the chance to taste some of the finest Swedish pastries, of course "Knäcke" and cheese. In the basement two Swedish designers got the chance to exhibit their newest collection and we were impressed by the high quality and wearable pieces. The designer Josefin Mellander told me that she just finished her second year at Boras University. She was chosen out of many designers to win this year's Show Up Fashion Award initiated by the Marketplace Boras.

Later that week, on Sunday, I visited the gallery of Swedish Photography. The pictures were all taken by the famous fashion photographer Camilla Akrans and were so beautiful. All week long they were also showing Swedish Fashion Short Movies which was interesting, but not that surprisingly new. But I also had the feeling to have a little fashion overload and could not take any more fashion inspiration. But the whole gallery is really recommendable. It is located in a beautiful typical Berlin backyard right off Oranienburgerstrasse.

The Business of Vintage

I have been in the the business of vintage officially for 10 years, from my Saturday job to then owning my own business, my knowledge has grown and my love for it never changed. In fact if I really think back I spent most of my childhood in my mother's wardrobe with my friends dressing up in shoes that were 6 sizes too big, 80's shoulder padded shiny dresses and using fabric belts as headbands. Looking back I think I spent ever weekend dressing up and coming up with new styles. As an only child I entertained myself like this for years. I will one day find the photo evidence!
I am a vintage, second hand as I also refer it too, lover. It's been so far the longest love affair of my life. You have to love it to be in the business of it.

I find great happiness in vintage clothing, something I never thought of that much before, I just took it as natural but I know not everyone feel this way. Some customer reactions to vintage or second hand can be quite hilariously aversive due the fact that someone may have worn it before and describing vintage as, dare i say it, 'dead people clothes', to which I have laughed as essentially it most likely true.

I myself have never though such morbid thought and like any good vintage lover see it more as breathing new life into a beautiful piece of clothing, allowing oneself to be different, create your own style and if really want to push it being ethical by recycling clothing.

I fully understand sometime the smell of second hand can be off-putting and here at Godiva we do endeavour to clean up our vintage, however I must admit when on holiday when I walk into a vintage store, vintage shopping is a must for any holiday for me, the familiar smell does bring a smile to my face and I feel at home.

My vintage 'must haves' are a good bag and coat. My favourite coat created by Winsmoor. I will one day post a photo. When I discover a great cut vintage dress or pattern like nothing else I have ever seen I am filled with joy. A lot of the time these dresses don't have labels as the have been hand made, which makes them even better, as someone has taken their tim eto create for themselves or for someone else. An example of a craft, skilled, do it yourself age of the past.

I think my love for vintage and love of working in Godiva is the constant stimulation my senses get from such clothing, the cuts, the patterns, the fabric and colours. The mishmash mix up of all these fantastic shapes and prints in one room is hugely pleasing to me. Not driven by the latest fashion trend or popularity.

Additionally fashion repeats itself, with vintage you find so much of the original pattern that so much design is now based on today. Of course not all vintage second hand is beautiful to me, some is down right ridiculous! But this too bring a smile to my face, how someone could actually of designed that oversize mohair pompom batwing jumper. But still with vintage something I think may be ridiculous is to someone else is the thing the have been looking for all their lives. A piece of vintage clothing will always be loved by someone somewhere, unlike the disposable fashion on the high street.

Nothing sucks my soul more than the high street. I strongly believe Primark is the work of the Devil. I only clothes shop on the high street for essentials like underwear, as second hand underwear is a step too far! I don't enjoy looking like everyone else and that is were vintage allows you to be free to be individual, as well as part of the vintage believers tribe, something to me more satisfying than the looking like everyone else tribe, However for those who take comfort in this, that is fine by me if that's what makes you happy.

I seemed to have reminisced somewhat today! I have enjoyed it and I hope you have too.

I guess I should also tell you that we are still having a vintage sale in store, which will end soon. So come buy,a the more you buy now the more new and fresh vintage stock I can buy, which is one of my favourite parts of running my own vintage business.

MBFW Berlin: Thursday

Thursday was the day of Frida Weyer's installation in the Regent Hotel in Berlin. It was exciting to experience what happens behind the scenes of such an important event. Surprisingly, the atmosphere in the backstage area where the models got their make up and hair done by MAC and Aveda was pretty relaxed and drama-free. I spent most of the time downstairs in the lobby and took care of the guest counter and protected the guest list with my life. The whole installation was a huge success. All invited guests were happy to see something different than a fashion show and perceived the event as a good opportunity to finally see a collection detailed and with no pressure of having only one shot for a good photo. Furthermore guests could communicate and Frida Weyer had the chance to talk to everyone without having time pressure. The collection can be best described like this:

For the Fall 2011, FRIDA WEYER presented a fashion installation in the Salon Gontard at the Regent Hotel on the Gendarmenmarkt.

On show was a selection from the collection based on the designer's expanded concept. Alongside cocktail, black tie and bridal, in the future, you'll find everyday & business dresses and everything you'd like to wear 24/7.

Same same but different! FRIDA WEYER's new collection appears less romantic but not a bit less feminine. Pleated chiffon, folds twisted in curves – the hallmarks of the designer are unmistakable with the emphasis on feminine forms.

A trip to New York served as inspiration for the designer. "NYC, yellow cabs at night! Everything sparkles and shines. No need to say more.", says Frida Weyer.

The main colors mandarin and lime were rounded out with winter tones such as aubergine.

With their casually teased up-dos and boldly painted lips, the models had the eyes of the visitors and flashes of the photographers fixed on them for one solid hour.

Monday's Mix Vintage & Designer

After two long working days and a very interesting model casting for Frida Weyer, I finally got the chance to get into "the tent" on Bebelplatz to see the Baltic Fashion Catwalk, a show of five upcoming and very talented young designers. Also, it was the perfect chance to wear one of Rowanjoy's beautiful skirts.

Godiva long term friend, creative fashion designer and Godiva studio dweller Rowanjoy created this emerald Lustre dress as part of her A/W10 range, inspired by her A/W09 Lustre jumpsuit. This one off beautiful dress sold pretty much immediately!
And thanks to Cristina Carra Caso for another great photo for the Godiva designer album.
Rowanjoy is currently working on her S/S11 range and I am about to go down to the studio to, to make at start on the spring cleaning and gathering some materials and clothing in preparation for next weeks relaunch of the customising & reworking project on Wednesday. This project was in fact how I met Rowanjoy all those years ago so here hoping we find another star designer!

MBFW Berlin: Monday

I am so sorry for not posting earlier, but I was busy with helping Frida Weyer and her installation that took place yesterday in the Regent Hotel in Berlin. But I'll come to that later...
For now, one of Rowanjoy's really cool capes which I wore to one of the Fashion Week's opening parties at .HBC on Monday night. The party itself was not that great, but a lot people fancied the cape.

One of my favourite coats of 2010! and in fact in the top 5 ever, is this beautiful brown tweed coat with layered dusty pink Toscana fur collar was created by recent ECA graduate Louise Holsgrove as part of her final graduate collection. I was sad to see this exquisite coat go but the extremely lucky and lovely customer who bought it a day I was working looked beautiful, and am sure she is still donning it with pride today.
We are looking forward to more of Louise's work in 2011!

7 years ago Godiva Boutique formed a team of fashion students who were interested in customizing & reworking vintage clothing in their spare time.

It was an opportunity to develop and show off skills, test creativity and make some EXTRA CASH from shop sales!

It became a huge success and even formed some peoples future of careers in fashion.

We are starting this great project again and calling out for anyone with sewing skills and creative imagination to come and be part of the 2011creative team.

This is a great opportunity to be part of an extended fashion community.

good skills with hammers to ice

It's been quite a week of snow, snow and more snow. Thanks to everyone that turned up to the customer evening last night, I was in fact surprised that people made it through the snow, but we had a lovely night of wine drinking and shopping and the highlight being the custom made cupcakes, sprinkled with mini gingerbread men & candy canes.
The genius of the night was also our use of real snow for the wine cooler!
This morning however the hangover was cleared as designer Rowanjoy and I took to clearing the deathly ice from the front path of the shop. We began with some hot water and shovel, we were receiving quite few strange looks and laughs from car drivers. We then turned our skills to hammering the thick ice with small hammers! which in fact does work just a wee bit slow. A workman felt sorry for us and kindly leant us a larger spade. I can confirm that Rowanjoy is not just a highly skilled fashion designer but also got some great skills with a hammer and shovel to ice. Great way to start the day!

Interview with Gemma Carver

Last week I went to Nonchalant's pop-up Shop, organised by Such and Such Studio. The collective of artists and jewelry makers are renting out their studio in Leith regularly for exhibtions, pop-up shops etc. The space is just perfect for events like this.

Gemma was so nice to give me a interview about the the brand Nonchalant, her inspirations, her current collection and favorite places in Edinburgh, before she headed to India again last week.

L: How did everything start with Nonchalant?

G: Nonchalant started about four years ago and just after I worked a while for other people, I wanted to do my own label. I decided to do Nonchalant, but then wanted to go back to do a little bit more production. I worked in a chashmere production house in India for 9 months and then felt more comfortable to start my own label.

L: Who or what has the biggest influence on your work?

G: That‘s an interesting question. I would say that India has the biggest influence on my work, especially the colours, because you always see so many beautiful bright colours everywhere and women are wearing those crazy coloured saris on the street. Furthermore the aesthetics and social structure of India which finds itself in rich and poor. This can be seen in my work, as well, I often use rich fabrics and jewels and try to contrast it with more simple and cheaper fabrics.

L: Why is India the place of your choice?

G: It has always been a place which felt like home since I travelled to India the first time. I started working there for my graduate show and experienced that India has this unlimited potential in terms of dying, embellishment, crystal work, laser printing. Additionally Indians have the skills to everything I wanted to make and I was overwhelmed by the crazy possibilties they had there. I fell in love with this country and I have been going back ever since.

L: What does designing mean to you?

G: I think that anyone can draw a sketch, but translate it into a pattern and then translate the pattern into a fabric and produce it in the end, is the real challenge. Designing is not just the first concept for me, but the whole process of knowing everything from the design itself to the whole manufacturing process. To be a good designer you have to know everything, a simple idea is just not enough.

L: What is the name of your future collection and what will be the story behind it?

G: I always think about the story first, before I decide for a specific name. The next story is about survival and adaptation. I want to create a wardrobe that fit into your bag and which is movable. My ideal creation would be to have only ten pieces of clothing which are all interchangeable and as garments themselves are adaptable. I want to make it concise.

L: What kind of materials do you like to use for your collections?

G: Definitely silks, leathers, fur or maybe even fake fur, because it is always about being ethical. The last collection was about being a warrior and feminine at the same time. This has been reflected in my materials, as well. In my next collection I will use a lot of silk jerseys and bamboo fabrics as organic fabrics. It shall create a more natural range and „back to the basic“ atmosphere.

L: Where can we buy your collection?

G: You can buy my current collection in Godiva which is my main retailer in Scotland and you can also check it online.

L: How does a typical working day at Nonchalant look like?

G: Most of the time, I am in India and there I pick up my tailor in the morning with my motor bike and drive him to his work place which is my studio and we discuss the jobs of the day, new designs and fabrics. During lunch I go out to pick up a fresh juice and often head to the beach to swim a little bit. In the evening I pick up my tailor again and drive him home.

Coming to Edinburgh as your second city of choice...

L: ...what is your favorite place to relax?

G: Mmh...this is a hard one. I usually come here to work, but I really like to go up Carlton Hill, enjoy the 360° view and realize where I am.

L: ... what is your favorite restaurant?

G: One of my favorite places is Urban Angel, because you can get organic food there and you can get little main courses. Good for trying everything!

L: ... where do you go out for drinks?

G: Bramble is a good place to go out for drinks.

L: ... where do you go out for dancing?

G: My favorite place is Bella‘s (her assistant) living room. It is like we are having our own private club there and I prefer private parties anyway.

L: ... where do you shop in Edinburgh?

G: The best places to shop are, apart from Godiva, of course, is Corniche which is a shop which has a few of my favorite designers like Comme des Garcons and Vivienne Westwood.

Nonchalant Fashion Show

After a day at Godiva, designer Rowanjoy and I I headed down to a private view of Nonchalant's new collection which was held in Gemma Carver‘s georgian flat. I have personally known her for years now and even spent some time in India investigating fashion and factories. A great adventure together. Gemma spends half of the year in India, sourcing fabrics and working on collections to present to the western market.

The flat was filled with many of Gemma's family and supporters. Gemma has set up a small shop like room to display her collection before and after what was going to be a mini fashion show event in the living room. Everyone gathered round with glasses of wine, music went on and last minute lighting was erected! Very pop-up show style.

Gemma has a very distinct style. In her new collection, I especially loved the short fitted colourfully embroidered jackets. All the embroidery had been done by a family close to Gemma‘s house in Goa. The tight fitting red jersey dresses were the perfect complement to the jackets.

Lara was spontanously involved in the show as one of the models. She cut a video afterwards which I had taken during the show.

Guten Tag!

I'm Lara and currently helping at Godiva where I will be mostly contributing to the blog with updates of what's going on, events and anything else I feel the world should know about Godiva. So you will be hearing from me on a regular basis.
I just moved to Edinburgh three months ago from Germany to start my master's degree in Fashion and Textiles Management at the Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels.
I come from a small town in the western part of Germany, but moved to Cologne in 2007 to start my Bachelor in International Business which I finished this year. During my studies I had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Manila, Philippines which was a challenge, but first and foremost pretty exciting and formative. After that I went to New York City for three months and did an internship in the Global Marketing Department at Siemens Enterprise Communications. As you can imagine, another great experience and especially living in NYC blew me away. All this „living-abroad“ caused a steady wanderlust, that is why I chose to do my Master's degree in Scotland.

I like: travelling, New York City, Proenza Schouler, Phoenix, dancing, food (curries), cats, fashion blogs, Vintage, discovering nice shops and bars

I don't like: getting up early, rain, cold, being hungry, parties with silent music

I hope I can contribute a lot to Godiva and the blog. Nice to meet you all!

Be Inspired Fashion Show

I have previously mentioned in the blog yesterday that we are taking party in a fashion show to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Charity tonight at the Assembly rooms. It is a very exciting night for Fifi who will be showcasing some of here best selling shift dresses and a new design that even I have not seen yet. She has been busy on the sewing machine for the last 24hrs.
I promise to get snap happy with ym camera for those who wil miss the show and post them up for you tomorrow. This show we have decided to mix up the designers to show off the vast array of designs and designers we currently have in store. In the mix will be those super soft leather jackets by Nonchalant, Faye hackers silk & merino wool dresses, Rowanjoy's skirts and capes, silk underwear by Littlesisterlucy and recent ECA graduate Louise Holsgrove. For years we have worked along with Stolen Model Agency lending clothes for fashion shows and photoshoots. We are always happy to lend clothing for photographers to do test shoot for the models in return for some pretty pics of our clothing, vintage or designer, which we can then use for little bits of PR and for you to see our lovely things . We will be showcasing some of our best A/W collections along with other independent stores, such as Goodstead, Kakao by K, Covet and 21st Century Kilts.
The show doors open at 7pm and starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are £15 and all profits go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Which I think you will a greed is a very worthy cause.

It is definitely all about Capes this A/W10. A new skilled designer entered the showroom recently. Her name is Ruth Alexander and I think you will agree that she has an eye for mixing colours, vintage fabrics, tweeds and trims. These cheeky little capes are perfect for bringing some colour and warmth into that brisk autumnal day!

Winter Capes by Rowanjoy

Rowanjoy capes are the fastest selling garment in the showroom for a while! She has definitely hit the right stitch this winter with her new on trend capes! These classically designed capes are one size, and with the sleeve and belt they are great figure flatterers. Rowanjoy's signature style and skill of beautifully mixing vintage fabrics makes these capes individual. Of course every one is a one off and of the highest fabric quality due to her hand picked selection of quality wool & cashmere mix fabric.
These photos are a selection of of the collection so far. We only have the green check cape left currently in store. I did see her enter the studio this morning laden with some more great wool & tweed collection of fabric so watch this space or pop in store for more!

Just this Sunday past the Scotland on Sunday wrote a lovely little piece about the beginning of our new online shop. Its all very exciting here at Godiva to finally have the online shop. We have began with a mix of our best selling accessories and jeans. We will soon be adding underwear from Littlesisterlucy and the genius Mannequin Man lamps, however the site is a work in progress so please check it out and let us know what you think.

It was a long time coming but eventually we received our shipment of vintage tees! Here is a wee peak at what was in the shipment from the USA, we have everything from Mickey mouse collectables to rock tour mechandise. After the success of taking part in this travelling market last year we are very excited to be taking part again and this event should not be missed if you are a vintage lover!!! It's the only time I think Godiva will be trading on George Street! Vintage sellers from all over the country take part and we are going on a vintage hand-picking buying trip tomorrow to prepare a stall for this great event! We hope to see you there!!
If you do not find what you are looking for there, we are also restocking Godiva shop so plenty of vintage buying options this weekend. September just got a lot better!

We are very pleased to have an exciting new Autumn/Winter ahead in the Godiva showroom and would like you to come to Godiva for a preview party of what's coming in over the the next few months!

Here is a little taster of the night we hope you can ............

Louise Holsgrove

Keen illustrator and fashion designer Louise Holsgrove, combined her love for illustration and fashion creating a bright and bold print of metropolis. Her hand drawn illustrations show her interests in the concept of Folk and Outsider Art- untaught, uncontrived or spontaneous doodling. Her connection is highly personal and unconventional and a treat to the eyes. Her collection shows a need a for femininity while accommodating the nonchalance and disregard for 90's grunge. Godiva loves it!

Faye Taylor Hackers

Final knitwear collection, named 'Along the Line', finds itself gracing the rails of Godiva this Autumn/Winter. The collection consisted of knitted dresses, of large fabric samples, locked together in an unusual mock intarsia v-bed knitting techniques to create stylish day wear from women. The garments are created with fine merino wool, lambswool and silk. The vibrant colour palette of blue, purple and pinks in this range and the quality of the wools is what makes this easy to wear yet sophisticated dresses a must for this coming season.

Rowanjoy

Belted winter Kimono capes. Rowan has been busy in the studio since the end of the festival creating her new Autumn/Winter range. The Kimono capes are a beautifully crafted range of tweeds, winter inspired florals and brocades. Rowanjoy never fails to impress the showroom with her imagination and skill combining fabric perfectly to create outstanding one-off garments and we think you will think so to.

Reworked Workshop

Godiva has never seen such popularity grow so quickly like it has with this designer, and after a near sell out, we have a restocked the jewellery cabinet with this stunning work. Each piece cleverly recycled from vintage typewriters, silver charms and collected trinkets are artistically and skilfully put together to create beautiful necklaces, bracelets, earring and now even cufflinks.

New tailored leather jackets just in from Nonchalant, the leather is New Zealand cow nappa which has been treated twice to give it its super soft touch.

This festival instead of a Go-reborn pop up Godiva has joined with go-reborn to create our own market stall which actually is more of an adult wendy house than a stall! Situated in the West End market as part of the 3D2D craft & design fair, next to St John church you will find us just off the Prince's street entrance. So come visit us there throughout the whole month of August. Open 7 days! you will find bamboo tees from Aware Injustice, Rowanjoy tees, fabric bow belts, screen printed scarves, canvas bags, art illustrations by Kate Mackay and much more. We will continuously changing stock and adding more designers to the space over the next 3 weeks 11-6pm! We look forward to seeing you there. x

My new vintage jewellery supplier has been working over time to collect me these classic 80's clock necklaces. Fully functional quartz clocks you will never be late again!! I especially love the the Owl with retractable wings. I only have one of each of these necklaces. At £22 pounds each, £32 for the Owl, these will make the perfect gift or treat for yourself.
